More on the Philharmonic in North Korea

The New York Philharmonic going to North Korea is the biggest event to happen in the field of cultural diplomacy since Bernstein led a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in Berlin on March 1, 1990, in celebration of the fall of the Berlin Wall. This tour has positive ramifications not only for those it will directly benefit, but for all of us who believe that music can bring people together.

The New York Times has this article about the press conference given by North Korea’s highest-ranking diplomat in the United States at Avery Fisher Hall, and this article placing the tour in its historic context. The New York Philharmonic has a press release and statement at its website.
